Red flag signs and symptoms: Awareness
Cauda Equina UK are the UK’s first and only registered charity dedicated to raising awareness and supporting those affected by Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES).
CES is a rare disorder usually resulting in a surgical emergency. CES affects a bundle of nerve roots called Cauda Equina, which are located at the lower end of the spine. They send and receive messages to and from your legs, feet, and pelvic organs.
One of our aims is to raise awareness of the red flag signs and symptoms of CES. Not just for for members of the public, but also doctors and healthcare professionals alike. We are therefore launching a five month campaign dedicating one month to each of the red flags signs and symptoms.
The red flag signs & symptoms are:
- Saddle Anaesthesia
- Bladder disturbance
- Bowel disturbance
- Sexual Problems
- Nerve root pain
During the forthcoming months we will be focusing on how each red flag can present in different individuals. We will be exploring how each of the red flag signs and symptoms can affect individuals and their families and friends on a daily and long term basis.
We want to know your stories of how any of the red flag signs and symptoms have affected you, so that we can share them with individuals and healthcare professionals in the hope that they will be able to identify the red flag signs and symptoms as early as possible. You can do this by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org or write to CES UK Charity, 9 Town Square, Syston, Leicestershire, LE7 1GZ.
